This is a fun movie. That is enough for me to like it. It doesn't have to be believable or fresh - just entertaining. Martin running around is fun. From wearing that Adidas jogging suit to howling like a "Federali", he keeps the audience watching. As a thief who needs to reclaim his stolen diamond that ends up in the ventilation shaft of a police precinct, he goes undercover as a detective, supposedly just for the afternoon, then gets a promotion and ends up enjoying it. So did I. Luke Wilson is good as the rookie detective teamed up with him, and Dave Chappelle is hilarious as Martin's confused underworld friend, but it was all about Martin Lawrence.
The soundtrack is introduced smoothly (everytime someone turns on a car radio, here comes a track off the soundtrack), the movie opens up with a slick robbery scene to prove that this is a pro thief, and the ending is cute.  All in all, an entertaining disposable popcorn movie.

This movie tries to be fun, and succeeds admirably.  Here you can sit back and relax, have a good time, and not have your intelligence insulted.
