I've been having a kind of horror fest this week with my friends (see my Random Page for more details). Anyway, I really wanted to see The Village because I love M. Night Shyamalan and because the previews looked really good. Here we go
The movie starts at a funeral in the small, isolated town of Covington. All of the people then eat dinner together outside, which I guess they do for all of their meals. Soon, dead animals start turning up all over the place, skinned and with their heads turned around. We then meet Lucius Hunt when he is asking the Elders (the town leaders) if he can venture into the forbidden woods to go to the other towns to get medicine. The woods are forbidden because "Those We Do Not Speak Of" live in the woods. The people in the town have a truce with them that they will not breach each other's borders. But you can never trust a scary creature. Those We Do Not Speak Of start to come into the town, scaring all of the people there. They wear the bad color, which is red, and the townspeople wear the safe color, which is yellow. Another prominent character is Noah Percy. He is the town idiot, but you can't help but love him. Whenever he sees red somewhere, he gets happy when everyone else is scared. One of the best scenes in the movie involves Noah, but I don't want to spoil anything for those who have not seen the movie. One of the newest things for Shyamalan to put in this movie is a love story between Lucius Hunt and Ivy Walker. She is blind but she can see people's colors. But she won't tell Lucius his color and we never find out, which made me angry. I personally liked the love story and I wish Shyamalan would've developed it more because it was basically just one scene in the movie. Anyway, I can't write any more on the plot without spoiling it so I'm done here.
I read some really bad reviews for this movie, but I really enjoyed it. Some of the parts really scared me, but in the end, I wasn't scared. Bryce Dallas Howard was really good in this movie I thought, and so was everyone else, but they were all Oscar Nominees and Winners, so she really stood out. Yeah, so, anyway, I really liked this movie and would recommend it to everyone. |
