Well, I finally saw a scary movie that had me scared to drive home that night. The Forgotten was probably the scariest movie that I've seen all summer, but it wasn't really scary...it was just really jumpy, therefore it was scary.
The movie begins with Telly mourning over the death of her son, who died 14 months ago in an airplane crash. Everyday she looks at photo albums and videos she has of her precious Sam. Then one day, when she goes to look at the albums, all of the pictures are gone. All of the videos are blank too. She automatically blames her husband, but he doesn't even remember having a son with her. He tells her that she had a miscarriage and that she made up her son like he was an invisible friend or something. She cannot accept this and runs away from him. She ends up in the park where she meets this other guy who is going through the same thing she is, except he can't remember his daughter. In his apartment, Telly rips down all of the wallpaper in the office to reveal the colorings the guy's daughter had drawn on the walls. He thinks she's psycho, so he sends for the police. When they take her away, he starts to remember his daughter and takes Telly away from the police. They run away from the authorities, but are always being followed by this strange, strange man who scared me. Soon weird things start to happen, and just when Telly and the guy think they're finally going to get an answer, the unthinkable happens. That part scared me half to death, and apparently the rest of the movie theater did also because they were screaming too. I can't give away any more of the plot so I'm done with that part.
Every time I think of this movie, I get the chills. Usually, I get scared by seeing something really scary, but there weren't any scary images in this movie, except for one towards the very end. It was the kind of movie where things jump out at you that you're not expecting. That to me is the scariest thing. Julianne Moore does an excellent job in this movie. Gary Sinise made me happy by just being in the movie...gotta love Lt. Dan. The only other guy that really stood out was the freaky stalker dude. Man, he scares me. The movie posed a lot of questions but only answered some of them. But basically, it was a great movie and I recommend it to anyone who wants a good scream, because it definitely made the audience in my theater scream. |
