Summary: Based on the Marvel Comics, Blade(Wesley Snipes) is a vampire hunter, who is actually part vampire himself. Blade wages a war against all vampires, especially those led by a very intelligent and charismatic vampire, Deacon Frost(Stephen Dorff). As Frost states, Blade has all of their strengths, none of their weaknesses. As their war wages on, the stakes grow higher as Frost discovers a way to allow himself to walk in the day- a feat that would allow vampires to take over their "cattle"- mankind. The only thing that stands in his way, is Blade.
Review:
Tim: The first time I watched this film, which was in the theatre, I really didn't like it. I watched it again, this time on video to fresh my memory of how awful it was. However, I was quite disappointed- I actually liked the film. I don't know if they changed anything from the big screen to the small one, but the film I watched wasn't bad at all.
Wesley Snipes is very good as Blade. He doesn't need too much acting variety, but he plays his part well. Stephen Dorff is tremendous as Deacon Frost. He is one of my all time favorite bad guys. The action in this movie is outstanding- it is really something to see. The film also contains
just a hint of humor which keeps the film moving.
Blade is not for everyone. The film contains many gruesome scenes. I wouldn't recommend allowing children to watch this film(it is rated R afterall, but when I was little, I saw tons of R rated movies)This is one R rated film that I would shield the little ones from, unless you enjoy waking up several times a night to comfort a child because of bad dreams. Besides little kids, people that don't like blood and gore(Meg, for example) should be cautious of this film- it's not for those with a weak stomach.
If you can stand the blood and gore, this film actually is decent. The action is sharp and the acting is great. My recommending this film is a toss up, but you can do much worse.
