Plot Summary from Internet Movie Database (http://www.imdb.com): A recently-widowed man's son calls a radio talk show in an attempt to find his father a partner.

Internet Movie Database’s User Comment: Richardson, TX

This movie was a gem. The Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan chemistry works perfectly, and the romantic storyline clicked. Ryan, who has recently become engaged, hears a grieving Hanks (who plays a widower) on a call-in talk show and becomes obsessed with meeting him. The film works on all levels, and I really liked it. See it if you get the chance.

Today’s Topic

Do you believe people their genuine partner by destiny?

Matthew

I think this is a very loaded question. Firstly, I do not really believe in destiny. I think it is just human nature to look back at history and presume events happened deterministically. Secondly what is someone’s ‘genuine partner?’ But skipping past that question, do I believe people meet their ‘genuine partner’ by happy coincidence? Yes.

Maxine

Sometimes accidents or coincidences seem like destiny when they are really just accidents. I think we create a lot of mystique around romance that is really just fantasy.

Taro

No, I don't. I believe that there is no destiny in the world except inside of peasant’s mind.

Luis

I sometimes think that believing in destiny is quite romantic and fantastic i.e. that it is unlikely to have an effect on "match making” (we would have to say what is “destiny”). But there are times in which the coincidences of life are so big for somebody to meet somebody that saying is just plain luck is not good enough explanation (for me). So maybe destiny can help the explanation...

Nestor

What destiny??? I think there is no genuine partner, despite what Plato says in his Dialogues. There is many people you ca be with, it just a matter of circumstances that you end up with this or that couple.

HyeYeon

Yes! I strongly believe destiny, therefore I can live everyday happily. Destiny is kind of relief for me, but I believe there is my genuine partner somewhere in the world.

Sunny

There is a very special thing we can’t explain. I would like to call that “Destiny.”
