| CAST: Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, Alfred Molina, James Franco, Rosemary Harris, J.K. Simmons, Donna Murphy, Daniel Gillies, Dylan Baker, Willem Dafoe, Bill Nunn, Vanessa Ferlito, Aasif Mandvi DIRECTOR: Sam Raimi RATING: PG-13 STUDIOS: Columbia Pictures, Sony Pictures, Marvel Comics & Laura Ziskin Productions RELEASE DATE: July 2, 2004 QUOTE: "I believe theres a hero in all of us, that keeps us honest, gives us strength, makes us noble, and finally allows us to die with pride, even though sometimes we have to be steady, and give up the thing we want the most." A Second Swing On Spidey's Web REVIEW BY CATHERINE KRUMMEY Spider-Man 2 is terrific. It's one of those movies where everything comes together: the acting, the writing, the directing, the action, the drama, the romance and the special effects. Sam Raimi, who co-wrote the script in addition to directing the movie, is the mastermind of the show. The way he so masterfully mixed the intense action scenes with the equally (if not more) intense drama scenes. Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst's chemistry just jumps out of the screen and draws the audience in, wanting Spidey to save the day so he can go back to being Peter Parker and see his Mary Jane. Unfortunately, MJ and Peter don't have lovey-dovey scenes throughout most of the movie, but the romantic tension is there. As for the Harry (James Franco), the son of the late Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), he goes into drunken, raging tantrums about how Spider-Man killed his father. Doc Ock, aka Dr. Otto Octavius, played by Alfred Molina, is almost secondary compared to Spidey/Peter's relationships with MJ, Harry and Aunt May (Rosemary Harris). This is absolutely the best super-hero movie ever and one of the best movies of the year. The amazing Spider-Man is back and he's the best he can be, which greatly increases the anticipation and curiousity for 2007's Spider-Man 3. |
