Julianne Moore shines as the rich suburban housewife caught up between a gay husband (Dennis Quaid) and relations with a black man (Dennis Haysbert) in the '60s. Both issues controversial at the time (for the most part they still are), this movie was very eye-opening and just brilliant. This was one of the best movies of 2002. The costumes (those especially worn by Moore and best friend Patricia Clarkson) were great, showing true '60s suburbanite style. This is not your winter popcorn flick. It is a movie that will make you think and feel and escape from your troubles and delve into the harshly painful reality this woman has to deal with. It is a must-see. |
