REVIEW BY CATHERINE KRUMMEY
An indie is amongst the top 10 - again. Like last year's
My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Bend It is kicking its way into the big league, and audiences and critics alike are welcoming it with open arms. The movie stars Nagra as Jass, a young Indian woman who has one dream: to play soccer. She meets Jules (Knightley), who invites her to be part of her team, and they become best friends, only to throw it away when their coach (Rhys-Meyers) comes between them romantically. That conflict is only minor next to her family's unwillingness for her to play. This is a great and inspirational film about acceptance and being who you are. It is a must-see for 2003.
