The Band Today |
Movenis Rising Sons of William flute band in the past few years have grown in strength, and band membership has seen a sharp increase especially in the last two years. Local interest with the band amongst the youth of the town and district indeed seems to be in good order and long may this continue. It is critical to get new recruits into the band each year and good news to see so many of the younger generation joining up and learning to flute or drum each winter. If this trend continues over the next number of years the band as it is at present will be in good order. |

On the 26th May 2004 the band were kited out with their new uniforms. These were purchased to mark the 100 year anniversary of Movenis. On Saturday 29th May the band assembled at Movenis Orange Hall for the new uniforms to be dedicated. The dedication was carried out by the Worshipful District Master Bro Moore,Worshipful Master of Movenis LOL 642 Bro Gilmore and District Lay Chaplin Bro MacAlease. This proved to be a good opportunity for a few photographs to be taken before making their way into Garvagh for the annual parade held by Moneydig Young Conquers. The band then paraded the town for the first time wearing the new uniforms which were stunning and many good comments were made to the band with their new uniforms. On this occasion the band had in it's ranks 20 fluters, 8 snare drummers, 1 bass drumer, 2 cymbal players and 1 deacon. This wasn't the full band as some of the band members had another engagement to attend. Still the band had an enjoyable night and another entry for the Movenis history books and indeed for the town of Garvagh.
This year 2004. The band has in it's membership 24 Fluters, 12 Snare Drummers, 1 Bass Drummer adn 2 Cymbal players as well as 1 Marshall ''deacon' who does a great job in keeping the ranks in good order.
Movenis flute band on average attends 2 parades each week during the marching season which starts in mid April and ends in mid September. On some occasions the band are out on parade three nights a week, and as well as the parades throughout the country the band holds it's band practise each Monday night at 8.00 PM. Each year the band learns a number of new tunes to add to it's growing list of music to play at the various parades around Northern Ireland. |
