Code of conduct: The responsibility as a mouse breeder is as follows: 1) In the breeding of fancy mice a breeder will, at all times, emphasize good health, stable temperament, and breed for appearance to meet the fancy mouse standards. 2) Protect and enhance the fancy mouse reputation by employing responsible personal, social, and business practices. 3) Breeders will behave in a respectful manner to reflect positively on themselves and their fancy mice. 4) A breeder will keep accurate records of all pedigrees and breedings that occur in their mousery, to the best of their abilities. 5) A breeder will plan and implement a breeding program with the preservation and protection of the breed being foremost 6) A breeder will breed discriminately, making sure that they are able to find good homes for all their fancy mice. 7) A breeder will emphasize quality not quantity 8) The breeding of fancy mice will be kept free for disease and genetic defects as to the best of the breeder and their veterinarian�s ability 9) A breeder will consult a qualified veterinarian if an inherited problem is suspected. The breeder will inform all breeders who have purchased stock from them, as well as MCWA, and all pet owners of animals concerned. The breeder should also notify the breeder of the animals if not bred by them. 10) A breeder will only breed from fancy mice when they are in good health and of good weight range and condition. 11) It is strongly advised that female mice not be bred before the age of 4 months to ensure complete physical maturity. It is recommended that a period of 2 months is given between litters for the doe to regain optimal condition. It is recommended that female rats not be bred after the age of 12 months. It is recommended that male mice not be bred from under the age of 4 months to aloe for optimal physical maturity. 12) A breeder will provide sufficient socialization for pups 13) A breeder will provide a guide to the new owner to outline proper care including housing and diet. 14) A breeder will not place a mouse under the age of 5 weeks, and recognize that 6 weeks or older is recommended. 15) Breeders will maintain high standards of health and care for all fancy mice by providing adequate room for exercise and play. A breeder will provide clean and comfortable quarters with adequate bedding, litter, retreats, ventilation and lighting. A breeder will supply a balanced quality diet with clean water and litter. A breeder will give fancy mice daily care and attention, and seek veterinary care when needed. 16) A breeder will house fancy mice in a manner suitable to prevent the risk of accidental breeding and any aggressive behavior between fancy mice. 17) A breeder will not allow fancy mice to run loose outdoors and against the elements. Fancy mice should be protected from any parasites and other animals. 18) A breeder will not sell any fancy mouse knowingly to a backyard breeder, to a feeder breeder, or to ay breeder who shows lack of ethical treatment to their fancy mice. 19) Breeders will state the difference between pet, show and breeder quality animals to any buyer, and label their mouse accordingly. 20) When selling a breeding fancy mouse he breeder will fully explain the pedigree, and discuss any inbreeding and outcrosses they are aware of. A breeder will include a minimum 3 generation pedigree with breeding quality fancy mice. 21) Where a 3 generation pedigree is not available, the breeder will supply as much information as possible at the time, and make sure the buyer is aware of this. 22) A breeder will do everything their power to aid in the safe re-homing of any fancy mice of their breeding when they are in need of rescuing or placement.
