KENYA 05 DAY CIRCUMNAVIGATION:
For those mountaineers who have an adventurous spirit and want to climb to Point Lenana (16,355 ft.), Mount Kenya's third highest peak, in a leisurely fashion from a non-tourist route with time for acclimatisation. Day
1 - The morning is spent sorting and organising personal equipment for
the trek. Lunch is at the Lodge (this is an extra charge for those not
on full board the previous night). In the afternoon you drive to the roadhead
of the Naro Moru Track to the Met. Station where you spend the night in
comfortable log cabins. A good day for acclimatisation for you will
Day 2 - Hike up to the Teleki Valley to MacKinders Camp where there is a spectacular view of the main peaks. Walking time approximately 4-6 hours. Overnight in Teleki Valley (14,000 ft). Day 3 - After an early breakfast, begin the circumnavigation of the main peaks by heading north. One traverse takes you below the south and west faces on your approach to Two Tarn Hut then across Western Terminal, into Hausberg Col and into MacKinders Valley. Walking time is approximately 5 hours. The highest point reached during this day is 15,000 ft. Your Camp in MacKinders Valley is at an altitude of 14,200 ft. The night will be spent in high altitude tents. Day 4 - An alpine ascent of the third highest peak, Point Lenana, up the north face which is little used by tourists. The top should be reached after about 4 hours of stiff walking. You then descend into Teleki Valley and spend the night at your original camp completing a scenic traverse of the mountain. Day 5 - Descend the mountain and return to the Lodge.Then drive to Nairobi. |
