Rocky Mountain Flowers

Western Wood Lily and Indian Paintbrush
Western Wood LilyPhoto by John Fisher
Western wood lily and Indian paintbrush fill a meadow with color while the Canadian Rockies grace the skyline in the background.  This photo was taken July 2005 at Many Springs Lake in Bow Valley Provincial Park along Highway 1 east of Banff, Alberta. The Many Springs hike is a short one, but many kinds of flowers can be seen at the edge of the trail.  Most western wood lilies grown singly on a tall stem.  Their golden (almost orange) color adds color along hiking trails. They make a nice additional to your own perennial garden and they seem to grow well away from the mountain environment.
