Rocky Mountain Flowers

Indian Paintbrush
Although the Indian paintbrush is the state flower of Wyoming, at least 10 different species of the flower are found in abundance in the Canadian Rockies.  The flowers are actually greenish-yellow but take on the color of the floral bracts which "enfold" them. The stems often form large clumps and have numerous alternate leaves, each with three prominent parallel lines. The rootstock is a parasite which makes transplanting to home gardens unwise.
