Rocky Mountain Flowers

Blue Clamatis or Purple Virgin's Bower
Blowing in the wind?  No, this photo was shot on a windless day in the Canadian Rockies.  Nor are these true petals.  The showy petal-like sepals, accented by darker veins, may stick straight outwards like in this flower -- an invitation to insects that will find sweat nectar deep within the reaches of this flower.  In the late season the flower turns to a mop of long, greyish-white fuzzy styles, which in themselves are beautiful.
