Rocky Mountain Flowers

Alpine Buttercup (also known as Snow Buttercup)
The Alpine Buttercup or Snow Buttercup grows near or above the timberline.  It blooms in the spring or early summer, even before the stems reach their full length of a foot or more.  It often grows in pools of water from melting snow or along streams and ponds and in meadows.  The flower is about an inch across and has five bright yellow petals, five lavender-tinged sepals, and many stamens and pistils.
