Breast Cancer Prevention and the Martial Arts

This is the last article I am adding to this newsletter (although it appears near the beginning of the newsletter). The newsletter is already long enough and every page I add cost me more money and time. However the purpose of this newsletter is to reach you, wake you up and inspire you to get off your rear end and do something. I want to took about another form of self-defense, self defense against breast cancer. Not a pleasant topic.

It is no secret that this horrible disease has been increasing by leaps and bounds and attacking women of all ages. Of course all women should be checked up on a regular basis, that goes without saying. But what more can we do to fight back? I just read an article (Jerusalem Post, October 26) about an extensive research project by the university of Washington. They said the results were amazing and surprised everyone. So Listen up and listen good, your life may depend on it!

Girls who exercise during the TEENAGE YEARS, and keep their body weight down, have been found to reduce and delay breast cancer when these girls grow up. That's it, that's the big secret they discovered. So what are you going to do about it? Tell me "Well if my kid does not feel like going to karate or some other physical activity, what can I do? force them!?" Well, what do you do when your kid does not want to learn geometry or biology (things most people never use during their adult years) - you make it clear that they have no choice in the matter, as their parents it is your responsibility to guide your child rather than have the child guide you. In the modern age we have been truly negligent in ignoring the importance of exercise and we are surly going to pay the price, as we already are. Smoking, obesity, cancer, heart attacks

are all on the rise causing great suffering, not to mention a crises in the health insurance business as we all have to pay for these peoples mistakes in life style. We need to rearrange our priorities. Just as you would not deprive your child of an expensive immunization shot that can prevent a horrible disease, so too you must not ignore the findings of the medical profession that have told us again and again how exercise can greatly reduce the chances of contracting the deadliest diseases we face today. Exercise should be part of your life. Just do it.
