Welcome to Mount Zion Chapel,
the original name of Hawes Junction Methodist Chapel at Garsdale Head.
Mount Zion Chapel was built in 1876, the same year in which the Midland Railway Company opened the famous Settle to Carlisle railway.  From the chapel windows can be seen Garsdale (formerly Hawes Junction) station, and the "Dandrymire" viaduct.  For more than a hundred years, a regular congregation met weekly in the chapel, and there was a thriving "Sunday-School".

There is no longer a Methodist Society there, and the chapel would have closed, but a group of friends who are interested in the history of the chapel decided to keep it open for occasional special events.  We are delighted at the support which we have received from so many people who have had links with the chapel in the past, and we are planning several new events during the year.  Details>>>

We have an original 1889 form from Grisedale (Richard Atkinson Memorial) Chapel for sale at 50.

We wish to thank all those who supported our exhibitions and other events over the last 3 years.
We were delighted to raise more than 12,000 towards repairs and improvements.
The extension for a new toilet with disabled access is now almost built, but we are grateful for the continuing support to raise the funds needed.  The total cost is likely to be over 20,000, and we thank Sedbergh Circuit for the grant to help towards this cost.
