Shoujo Kakumei Utena is one of the most original anime out there. It's storyline is really weird, but in a good way. The main character Utena goes to a school where the elites have a ring with a rose signet on it. When Utena was young, both her parents died and at their funeral, she was so sad that she didn't want to live anymore. Then a prince came and showed her a reason to live and gave her a rose signet ring. Utena decided that she wants to become like her prince.

Utena's adventure begins when she sees an upperclassman, Saionji abusing a girl, Himemiya Anthy. It turns out that Saionji is part of the student council and that Anthy is the Rose Bride. Whoever defeats the current "championr" in a duel gets the Rose Bride. Because Utena sees the cruelty of Saionji, she challenges him to a duel and wins.

Thus begins the strange tale of Utena. The purpose of the rose signet and the Rose Bride is supposedly to "revolutionize the world." However, all the mystery surrounding this only can be traced back to "the Ends of the World," who sends out orders to the student council on when the duels will take place and who will participate in them. Shoujo Kakumei Utena isn't boring to watch at all and the story will make you wonder. The movie is even more mysterious and is a must-watch.

This anime series is complete with 39 episodes and a movie called The Adolescence of Utena.
