Rurouni Kenshin tells the story of a wandering samurai, Himura Kenshin 15 years after the war the ended the Edo era. Kenshin was the Hitokiri Battousai, an assassin for the new government during the war. With his sword, he protected the men who would bring about the new Meiji government. But he disappeared from the battlefield in Kyoto one night. Rurouni Kenshin starts 15 years after that in Tokyo, where Kenshin has wandered to. Anyway, here's a link.

This anime series is complete with 95 episodes, an OAV series, and a movie. I have manga up to chapter 101 (when Kenshin fights Soujirou).
