Let me start out by saying... it'sfunny!~ Hilariously funny (among other great qualities also)!! Miyazawa Yukino is the perfect girl. She's smart, pretty, and graceful. But that's only the face she puts on at school. At home, she wears glasses insstead of contacs and gym sweats instead of her neatly pressed uniform. She studies day and night so she can get the highest grades in the class. What is this all for? So everyone can admire her... so she can be on top of the world. Until, that is, Arima Souichirou comes along. He is the perfect guy, exactly the same as Yukino, but male. Or so it seems. Arima may not be after admiration that Yukino is, but he also hides his true self from everyone. At the fear of becoming like his delinquent parents, he tries really hard to be the perfect person. Then, Yukino, mad that Arima gets aaaaaaalllllll the attention, vows to beat him during midterms. However, when she does, she doesn't get the expected reaction from him. He simply congratulates her instead of wreathing in agony at being beaten and even tells her he likes her ^_^ One life-changing day, Arima comes over to Yukino's house and unexpectedly discovers her secret. He uses it to his advantage and has her do work for him at the mercy of not letting her secret out. As they spend more and more time together, Yukino realizes that she likes Arima too. They get together and decide that they should both stop acting and just be themselves. But... that's only 3-4 episodes, just the beginning.

Kare Kano is just the shortened form of the real name, "Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou," which roughly translates to His and Her Circumstances. Basically, the series is about interpersonal relationships and how people interact. Through meeting the right person (in Arima's case, Yukino and vice versa), the lives of the characters change and they become better people.
