Erg... I'm gonna try my best not to ruin the series with my bad explanation. It is 2015, 15 yeras after the Second Impact in Antartica. Ikari Shinji is called in by his father to Tokyo not knowning what's going to happen. When he arrives, an Angel attacks and he is picked up by Katsuragi Misato to Nerv Headquarters. He is then told that he will pilot Evangelion to get rid of the Angel. After not having seen his father for years and told to pilot the huge mecha, Shinji is really confused and frustrated. So he refused. But after he saw the replacement pilot, Ayanami Rei, injured and still ordered to pilot Eva, he agrees to go instead.

Not knowing what this whole deal is about, Shinji pilots Eva and destroys the Angel. As Evangelion progresses, more and more of the story behind is revealed, about what the Angels and Eva really are, and about the issues surrounding the pilots' personalities and character. Evangelion is definitely interesting and lives up to the fame that it has earned in the anime world. The manga closely follows the anime (although I'm not sure which came first). This anime series is complete with 26 episodes and two movies: Death & Rebirth and End of Evangelion. I have up to volume 7 of the manga. I don't know how many volumes total there are.
