Well, its been planned for years, but I never went through with it, never? I guess never say never...... 2002 I had been preparing once again to finally get my HAM ticket and allthough I went through loads of trouble finding a VE session (test session) in my area, on April 20 2002 the magic day arrived. It was the day of the test, the day that would decide wheater my studies had payed off or not.... I would finally reach my goal of amateur radio operator. Naturally I was very nervous, but since I studied so hard on the practice exams it was not as hard as I thought. I ended up passing with flying colors. Thus becoming an Amateur radio operator. My work payed off.many years of radio-obsession with cbs, scanners etc. finally amounted to something great. My Call is: KD7RGC. My current license is the base license (Technician) With my current licence I have all amateur privileges above 30MHz and as of 2007 with the new rules i can finally do some dxing on 10meters or 28mhz, which was my goal all along. I am mostly active on the 2 Meter VHF Band. Also the antennas required are small in size, not to mention long range repeaters are found here as well. I am also able to access the 440MHz and 6Meter Band with my Yaesu VX-5 Handheld. For a Base radio I run my icom 229h a with a Radio Shack discone antenna. Iam also able to do packet radio, since I have a mfj 1274 tnc hooked up with my icom 229h. I mostly do packet right now. All in all Ham radio is still a strange world for me, I listen more than I talk.Last but not least I have to say that I reached this goal without any external help, studyguide, classes etc. All the knowledge came from my previous experience as a non licenced communications enthusiast, the only thing I had to study for was the FCC regulation stuff. below are some pics of my equipment.
73 for now, de KD7RGC
