The engine is a bored out crossflow (1700 cc) with flat top pistons, stage 2 big valve head and solid steel rocker pedestals. Timing gears are duplex with a high-pressure oil pump. Polished rods with ARP bolts throughout, cam is a 285 fast road. The flywheel is lightened and balanced, ignition is Lucas electronic rally set up. Twin 40 webers feed the fuel in while SSC�s own tubular manifold takes the exhaust away through a straight through absorption box (sounds lovely). A VW Sirocco radiator provides cooling with a metro header tank controlled by a Kenlow thermostatic fan. The whole thing has been set up on a rolling road. 0-60 in under 6 seconds, top speed 120+, 28 mpg on the motorway (70mph). |
