Porsche 911 Turbo

Porsche 911

1997 will be the last year possible to buy a Porsche 911 speedster. The air-
cooled era of the Porsche will come to an end in mid-1997 with the introduction
of the Type 996, which will replace the classic 911. By August of 1997, the
factory workers will be assembling water-cooled powerplants, larger displacement
versions of the Boxster flat-6. The standard 282 bhp normally aspirated flat-
6 introduced in 1996 is a superb engine that delivers incredible performance,
due to its Varioram induction system. Then there is the Porsche 911 Turbo S,
unarguably the world's most sensational production sports cars. With 400 bhp,
no other Porsche comes close to the power of this beast. The 911 speedster
comes in a rear-wheel driver or an all-wheel drive layout. The base engine is
a 282 bhp SOHC flat-6 powerplant. The 911 Turbo S is powered by a 400 bhp,
twin-turbo SOHC flat-engine. The six speed manual transmission will get about
17 mpg in the city, and 25 mpg on the highway. The two passenger speedster
has a price range from $63,750 (US) for the Carrera 2 coupe, to $105,000 (US)
for the powerful 911 Turbo S.
