Bugatti EB110
The first Bugatti EB110 was sold in Europe in December of 1991, by a company
in Campogalliano, Italy. The last Bugatti, before the EB110, was built in
1960. The new EB110 is claimed to reach a top speed of 212 mph, and can
accelerate to 60 mph in a brief 3.5 seconds. What this means, is that the
EB110 is the fastest production car in North America. However fast this car
is, below 4800 rpm, the EB110 is running without assistance from its 4 IHI
turbochargers. To be the fastest production car in North America, the EB110
runs on a 60-valve 3.5-liter intercooled V-12 mid-engine that pumps out 553 hp
and a massive 451 pound-feet of torque. The brute force of this 6-speed allows
the car to redline at 8500 rpm. All-wheel drive and huge 18-inch tires put
that torque to the ground. This high-tech hardware is bolted to an advanced
race-style composite unit-body tub constructed of Nomex honeycomb sandwiched by
carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic. The skin is aluminum. Behind this exotic
supercar is a car that gets decent mileage. At a steady 56 mph the EB110 will
get 21 mpg and at 75 mph 17 mpg. Behind the exoticness of Bugatti's new car
there is a bit of luxury, finely crafted leather interior, wood-grained dash,
and a Nakamichi stereo, with six speakers. All of this will cost only about
$320,000 (US).
