I've been getting more and more into SPL competitions, and my stereo has evolved for that purpose. As I'm writing this the Western Canadian Slam Jam finals are in 2 days (Sunday Aug 23 in Calgary Alberta) My stereo is going through a few last minute revisions, to make sure everything is perfect, but I'm hoping to do well, I've hit 146.8 dB legal in competition, and hope to better that by atleast 1 dB, putting me around 148 dB legal, and somewhere around 153 dB outlaw. I'll try to update this page as soon after the finals as possible.
NEW Well the finals are over, and I'm officially the 3rd Loudest car in western canada in the 201-400watt class!!!!!!! :)
I'm happy with my finish, being the only car that placed without a "wall" of subs. My system achieved exactly what I expected I hit 147.8 dB legal, and 156.1 dB outlaw which impressed me.
The competition was very close 2nd place was 148.1 dB, my car in 3th was 147.8, 4th was 147.6, and 147.5 for 5th
Now for a little bit on how I've done in competitions this year... (There haven't been too many...)
The first competition was Slam Jam, which I was still using last years system, and my subs were worn out, and in the wrong box, I hit a disappointing 135.5 dB, that showed me it was time for new subs... So being the Phoenix fan I am, I gave the XS series a try. I first bought 2 XS 12's, and put them both in the 1 cubic foot box I had for 1 comp 12 (yes 0.5 cubic feet per sub) and it was loud, clean and musical, lacking a little in the low end, but impressive for that small a box. Soon after I bought 6 more 12's, and built a box for all 8, making sure it would fit in the hatch. All running off one amp I went to my next competition only hours after finishing the new box, with 100 watts, I hit 142.5 dB, not bad.. but not what I was looking for. So, it was time for another amp. I purchased my second XS2500 and had it tested at Audio Concepts reaching a respectable 145 dB legal, soon after I got my third XS2500, and hit 146.8 dB legal..although things weren't perfect... One chamber for all 8 subs.. and all 8 aren't getting the same amount of power (3 amps 8 subs, you do the math) I decided on a 9th sub to even out the load. As of right now it hasn't been tested with the 9th sub, and second battery which just went in, but I'm hoping to go up slightly, 1 dB or so, if I broke 150 I would be very impressed, but I'm not holding my breath :)
Things I've won..
Well no big prizes here yet, I've won more t-shirts then I know what to do with, it has now become most of my wardrobe... A few small instore gift cirtificates, a plack and a nice PPI jacket... PPI you ask..? well I don't own a single piece of PPI equiptment, but hey it's a nice jacket, I wear it. Well the finals are in 2 days.. so maybe I'll have a few bucks in my pocket and a nice trophy to show off.
Well.. the trophy is in.. not bad 2 ft tall looks good and 100 bucks.. not alot but hey, you don't get into this for money (or you'll be sadly disappointed!)
