Formula One Racing Series |

The Formula One Racing Series (FORS) is a fantasy simulation of Formula One Racing that combines the strategy of chess, the risk management of backgammon, and the feel of a Walter Mitty adventure. It is a racing board game played with scale racing cars on scale tracks in accordance with a challenging set of rules derived from Avalon Hill's Speed Circuit. Games are held about once a month in the Washington, DC area. We usually have 10 or more race participants.FORS simulates a twelve race season, and features both a driver's championship and a team championship. As shown by the results over the years, this is a game of planning and skill.
FORS has always been a collaborative effort - close to a dozen people have contributed ideas to the current set of rules - and on this web page you will see the results of this joint effort. You will find a copy of our rules and tables, diagrams of most of our tracks, results of previous seasons, and detailed results of our current season (1998/99).
Membership in FORS is open to anyone with an interest in games of skill or Formula One racing. While it is a far cry from the real thing, it does have the advantage of being safer and considerably less expensive. If you live in the Washington, DC area and wish to join, please send an e-mail to Dick Higgins or Timothy M. Carnahan with your name and phone number and they will get back to you. We have had regular attendees from as far away as Richmond, VA and Baltimore, MD.
If you are not from this area, but are interested in setting up your own racing league, feel free to contact us. You are certainly welcome to use our rules and circuits - that's one of the main reasons we created this web page! We know of three other such racing leagues that have existed at one time or another using a similar set of rules. We would also be interested in any feedback you may care to provide, be it on the rules, the circuits, or the design of the web page.
