- Tires: 3 cold, 3 hot
- Laps run: 4
- Jeff August, challenging the Ferrari leaders, spun out in Curva do
Sargento and punctured his tire on lap 3 resulting in a mandatory pit
stop. (P.S. Unbeknowst to all, he unintentionally violated the rules by
repairing the tire using a quick pit stop instead of the required full
pit stop.)
- John Nestor, the leader entering the final straight, misfired in a
final attempt to overrev his engine, allowing his teammate, Tim Carnahan,
to slip by and nip him at the wire. In the closest finish in FORS history, Carnahan pipped Nestor at the line by .19 seconds (.58 to .77) The Ferrari team leader's skill (he used a blue chip to modify his roll from .78 to .58) made all the difference. ;-)
- Drivers championship: Nestor, 36; Carnahan, 35; Higgins, 34; Lawrence, 32; Weber, 32; August, 28; etc.
- Constructors championship: Ferrari, 72; Williams, 63; etc.
