Front Motor Mount R&R

Diagnosis

Motor mounts aren't really that hard to break. They are unfortunatly, somewhat hard to diagnose. Usually if your car has a real bad vibration when your letting the clutch out, or if you find it hard to get into 2nd gear, it's a motor mount.

R&R

Replacing the motor mount is not really that difficult. You are definetly going to curse and rip the skin off of at least 2 knuckles. To get started, the front motor mount is right in the middle of the car, just under the front valance. The part your replacing is a little square of steel with rubber on the inside. To get at this peice you need to take the mount on the car apart. First, start by supporting the car and the motor. Next remove the bolt the goes through the center of the motor mount. It will probably be a pain in your ass. Next remove the four bolts that hold the mount to the horse-collar are. These are NOT the bolts on the motor itself. Once the four bolts are off, the bracket comes off and you can now see the mount itself. To remove it, you must bend 2 metal tabs that hold it in. I simply used a cut off wheel. After the tabs are removed, the mount simply slides out of the bracket that is bolted to the motor. To put the new one in, do the same thing in reverse and remeber to bend the metal tabs over! Also, take a look at the bolts that hold the bracket to the motor. Most all of mine were loose, probably causing lots of vibration. 1
