This was the Cream of the Crop in the mid 80's for
in-dash CD players. Just look at this deck! Here is the description from
the '87 catalog:
DEX-77 - DIN Front-Mount Compact Disc Player with Supertuner III and
Control Amp
Accurate digital sound, easy operation and convenience are the three
key features of the DEX-77. Using the famous 3-beam laser pickup, the Compact
Disc player has all the accuracy of regular home models. The "Last
Address Memory" function ensures that the pickup stays on the correct
track even while you're riding on rough, jarring roads.
The DEX-77 is designed for easy operation, too. Discs can be loaded directly;
there's no need for a special cartridge. The power loading function smoothly
accepts the disc, automatically loads it, and play begins. Memory play
lets you program up to 8 tracks for play in the order of your choice. Track
search lets you instantly skip to the next track or back to the beginning
of the current track. Or set the DEX-77 to repeat the same track or all
the tracks on a disc over and over again.
The DEX-77 also features our Quartz-PLL Supertuner III which is complete
with presets for 18 FM and 6 AM stations, preset scan and automatic seek/local
tuning.
Adding convenience to the DEX-77 operations are the "Random Play"
and "Best Stations Memory." Random Play automatically mixes the
playing sequence of the CD tracks after each repetition of a program to
avoid monotony. The "Best Stations Memory" is a great time-saver,
automatically presetting the six most powerful FM and six most powerful
AM stations in the area.
The DEX-77 comes with a wired remote control
that puts you in complete control of the CD player, allowing you to adjust
volume, search for CD tracks and seek FM/AM stations.
The DEX-77 is definitely not user-friendly to thieves, however.
It uses a "Secret Code," a theft deterrence system that automatically
renders the unit useless when it is removed from the car - until you enter
your own secret code.
