This car is my personal favorite.
The car above is actually mine at the '94 Trans Am Nationals in Dayton
Ohio. There are many websites dedicated to this rare pace car. One of the
best (in my opinion) is Russ Salerno's site. Please give him a visit! There
are more links to other sites about the 20th Trans Am on his page. This
is really the ONLY special edition that Pontiac went all out on the DRIVETRAIN
and really understated the exterior. I don't really include the Super Duty's
as a "special edition" as they were offered to the public as
an option on the Trans Am, this car only came this way and was also a 20th
anniversary edition model which makes it a special edition. ALL other "special
editions" were mostly interior and exterior dress up modifications.
The drive trains used in these special editions were from the standard
line-up of engines available that year. THIS model, however, is mostly
drive train modifications and little interior and exterior modifications.
In any case, this is the fastest production Trans Am in the models' history
and also the ONLY Trans Am to use a V6 engine! You just got to love it!
Interior features (unique
to this model):
- Turbo Boost Gage in the instrument cluster
(in the same pod as the Tach)
- Rear seats has built-in "headrests"
(Although I believe that the Notchback T/A's also used these rear seats)
- 20th Anniversary Emblem on the map pocket
Exterior features (unique
to this model):
- 20th Anniversary Emblem on the fromt nose
(replacing the GTA emblem)
- TURBO TRANS AM emblems on the front fenders
(replacing the GTA emblems)
- The Indy "Winged Tire" Emblems on
the lower ground effect behind the front tire ahead of the front door
- 20th Anniversary Emblems on the B-pillar (replacing
the Firebird emblem on GTA models)
- TURBO decal in the lower center lamp housing
(replacing the standard reflector on Trans Am models)
- Special Firebird emblem for the middle of
the center lamp housing (replacing the plastic gold insert on Trans Am
models)
- Special Chrome Exhaust splitters welded onto
the standard muffler tail pipes
Mechanical features:
- The mechanical parts of this car were not
like any other this year!
- Engine: 3.8L Turbocharged SFI V6 (Buick design
- Reworked by PAS only for this model)
- 250hp (officially rated - more like 300~325hp)
- 4-speed THM200-R4 (only for this model) automatic
transmission
- 4-wheel disc brakes (from the 1LE option package
- dual piston front calipers - aluminum calipers)
- Spark plug wires with "20th Anniversary
Trans Am" printed on them
- Special crossmember for the THM200-R4 transmission
(only on this model)
- Special baffled gas tank (from the 1LE option
package - reduces fuel starvation during high-g cornering)
- Special front springs (because of the lighter
weight of the V6 - about 100 lbs lighter)
