HISTORY

1996 - 1997  First  days of a new swiss techno label

Moto Music was born in December 1996. The label was founded by Georgios Boutopoulos, also known as DJ Dan Piu, and Roberto Pistolese. At the time both were working for the mother-label No Acting Vibes. For the first two releases the label was distributed by GMD Hilden in Germany.
The name came from Georges idea, which meant: Music that sounds like technology. "It was the perfect name for the label" says George. "It mirrored exactly where we wanted to go musically. We wanted to base our sound on "Detroit-like" techno but we wanted to update it and push it forward in our own way." The first release came out in spring 1997 written & produced by Dan Piu. It also  featured Jean-Claude Horlacher as Xc-N  with an a-side track named "Eqtron-Smog". Dan Piu produced "Autopsy" and the others both tracks on the b-side. It contains bizarr soundstructures with repetitive beats and deeply strings."The Shine EP" went on to become a respectful record that year. The german Music magazine Frontpage put it on their favorites charts 1997. The record earned also much respect from international press and it was played by well-known Dj's worldwide. "Operating knife" probably the most club-useful track on this record is still played in many different clubs.

1998 - 1999 The rising...

"Defenders of the Limitless Expanders" was Dan Piu's second release and the name is a message to anyone who has a wide surface to understand what his music is about. "Breakdance 1965" the b-side track was the killer on it. Taking old vocals from the NASA and using them as instruments, he's not concerned with imitating the past as much as creating a new future. Moto Music 002 received critical acclaimed from the music magazines and was compared like the stuff from Carl Craig. One year later in 1999, Dan Piu released his 1st longplayer, entitled "Self Education", which means being independent and being freestyle. It was a 14-tracker, appeared only on compact disc in a limited edition.

2000 - The future...

In March 2000, Dan Piu released the very rebelliously "Inner City Terror". Side A contains strongly hard techno music. For those DJ's who like to warm the room and make people dancing. Side B the "Voodoo Session" gets directly into things with it's infectious rhythm and a sexy dirty salsa-vocal. In other words: A touch of wild carnival witth a twist of analoque is a combination your body will not deny. Subtle percussion keeps the groove tight while layers of strings and synthie-melodies keep you moving straight ahead.
After that release, Roberto was thinking about approaching a new artist who can enrich the label as Dan Piu did before. When he was searching for some of the best underground producers in Switzerland, Marco Repetto was an obvious choice for Roberto. Marco, also known for his productions concerning the label "generator" from Alan Oldham, Detroit, is going to release Moto Music 005 this year.
Dan Piu is currently working the next EP for Moto Music.
