2 WEEK FRINGE COUNTDOWN to MOTHERPAUSE
Friday, June 23, 2006 - Two weeks to go before opening night.  Can't believe it's actually been 4 months since that day I got the news.  "I'm in my first Fringe".  Had our venue walkthrough this week.  Really love the Robert Gill Theatre.  Such a wonderful, intimate setting.  Fnished my SFX cd today and had a article written about Motherpause in the local paper, The Flamborough Review.  Feeling optimistic.  Panic hasn't set in completely yet!!!!
Wednesday, June 28, 2006 - Had a really great runthrough of Motherpause, complete with sound effects and music.  Worked out a lot of the bugs.  Can't believe it's only a week and a day away.  Welcomed Assistant Stage Manager, Andre Ciere to the team!  Relieved to have 2 solid anchors, Susan Creer and Andre, on board for this project.
Sunday, July 2, 2006 - Have taken a few days respite from the rigors of "Motherpause".  Communing with nature with my camping buddies.  Stole away early this morning and did a complete run thorugh of "Motherpause" at the beach at Sandbanks.  Alone with my songs and dialogue.  Did get a few inquiring glances.  Probably looked a tad odd from their perspective.  Middle aged menopausal momma ennounciating and contorting her lips in seclusion in her vehicle at the beach.  Ah, what one does for ones craft!!!!
Tuesday, July 4, 2006 - Tech rehearsal today.  After the inital panic micro millisecond, felt the thrill of standing on this wonderful stage.  Enjoyed working with our fabulous technicians.  Loved what was proposed for the lighting design for "Motherpause".  Wow!  just think, Kimmy...in 3 days you'll be out there...under the bright lights...for real.   Who'd of thunk it?  Am I dreaming?  Yes, it's a dream coming to fruition.
Wednesday, July 5, 2006 - Fringe Day 1 has dawned!  Only positive thoughts from now on.  Two days hence, Motherpause, is presented to the throng.  Opening night...pshaw!  nothing can go wrong! (sure, and pigs fly!)  Today was postering duty, in and around the venue and at the Fringe Club.  Upon placing said Motherpause poster on the bulletin board, lo and behold, a CBC reporter with video camera in tow, requested footage of my actions and flung questions towards my person  concerning said Motherpause.  All aflutter, I vainly attempted some semblance of professional conduct (inside a blubbering mess) and proceeded to respond accordingly.  Who, What and Why?  The first 2 were a breeze...but the third...the complexity of that response.  Since he wasn't perpared to offer filming for at least a hour, my inner voice bravely  wrestled, winning control and softly answered..."because it's something I've always dreamed of doing...and it's  actually happening". What more can be said?
Thursday, July 6, 2006 - Had 2 runthoughs of Motherpause.  Feeling quite sane...haven't lost control yet.  Susan, my stage manager gave thumbs up so I feel confident all will be well.  What ever the outcome...at least I experienced the journey!!!  But...what a journey!!!!  When tomorrow dawns, I hope to see a cornucopia of interesting faces eager to hear about Motherpause.  Like Karen said....good luck, Kim...break a fingernail!!!!
Friday,July 7, 2006 - Opening night!  A bit nervous, very excited and anxious to start.  Found out my sisters from Halifax and Vancouver would be in attendance.  They gave me the ultimate gift.  Also, my birth mother and half sister, (whom the play is dedicated to), were there.   Friends, family, aqua-fit buddies and a few unknowns celebrated  "Motherpause", at the Robert Gill.  Missed a scene with a song, (there was no going back to retrace), but no one noticed except me and my confused stage manager in the booth.  Her facial contortions were priceless!  Quick recovery on both our parts keep things flowing!   Even got a standing ovation!   Whew, now on to tomorrow's matinee.
Saturday, July 8, 2006 - A lot more relaxed for this performance and not as emotional.  Felt really great after show.  Even remembered to perform the Gardiner Spew!  Fantastic feedback from audience.  They loved it and wanted to run outside and bring in more audience members!!!!!  i am so blessed to be able to participate in this amazing experience.
Monday, July 10, 2006 - Tonight's performance went well, the smoothest yet.  Technical glitches were almost nil.  Audience attendence is still low, but must remain focused on what this amazing journey is about.  Everyone who has supported this project by buying a ticket and experiencing "Motherpause", acknowledges the positive.  A year ago this was impossibility and here I am, a menopausal momma, following my dream!
Thursday, July 13, 2006 - Friends from Cambridge made it to the show.  Great to see them!  Pianist Karen Thornton, who was the accompanist was also in attendance, able to finally visualize how her recordings and the play  merged.  Ahhh...now I understand!  Read the reviews in Eye Weekly.  Tried to remain positive and open minded but old habits are sometimes hard to kick.  Went to performance with those words echoing in my brain.  Kimmie, why, oh why do you do this?  As  it happens, I felt the performance was the most focused to date.  Go figure!  Had to slip a a bit of imrpov into the show as new stage manager wrangled his way through some technical glitches.
Friday, July 14, 2006 - Hard to remain energized for today's show.  Felt I wasn't as focused as should have been.  Maybe a bit fatigued from last night.  Throat's a bit scratchy, this morning...seemed fine during performance.  A few technical glitches, threw me off.  What's with this glitches...enough already.  Only 2 in audience...but they still liked it!  Two shows remaining...can't believe it's sped by so fast.
