Ali Umrani
Born February12, 1938 in larkana, Sindh Pakistan.
MR. Umrani mostly done in Post-Impressionism but eventually he
is Surrealist Painter.
He began experimenting Oil pastel with knife in 1960, but in 1979 the death of his mother he became serious in art.
He has created more than 5000 paintings; no doubt he is a universal artist.
He has spent years traveling, devising sketches of life that he later turned into paintings.
He has no formal education in art he is self taught artist, you can say a natural artist.
Mr. Umrani’s First exhibition was held in Larkana in 1962 and second on 1964, at Government degree college Larkana he was studying in that college. After a silence of 18 years, he emerged in 1982, when an exhibition of his paintings was held at Hyderabad.
He continued, his another display had been represented to the art lovers in 1985 at Karachi the exhibition ceremony were held at Karachi Press Club by the platform of "Young Thinker's Forum ", but his artistic work achieved first significant acknowledgement on the national level in 1994, when his solo exhibition was held at Pakistan National council of the Art (PNCA) Islamabad, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister of Pakistan Ms. Benazir Bhutto.
Later three exhibitions of his work were held at Pakistan National council of the Art (PNCA) Islamabad, National College of Arts Lahore, and Arts Council of Karachi in 1996.
August 2001 he recognized internationally, he displayed his work in the Washington dc, Chicago USA in the platform of Sana and wsc.
In search of a simpler life, Mr. Umrani settled in Larkana, where he established an art gallery named “Mother Gallery”; Gallery promoted many young artists. Umraini’s paintings are full of vibrant colors and musically rich expression. He gives so much importance to social problems, social behavior, political injustice and the real feelings of people by the stokes of knife and the voice of colors. His artistic experiments influenced many Avant-garde developments in youngsters.

artist is a poet of colors, who depicts the innocent feelings
and emotions of people's innerworld through his aesthetic
sense, imagination and creative power. when his
solo exhibition was held at PNCA Islamabad ,which was inaugurated
by Prime Minister of pakistan Ms.Benazir Bhutto, where she has written
in visitors book that:" Mr.: Umrani 's paintings are
small but intense. Paintings reflect the mood of society,
I wish M: Umrani a successful career in the arts and I pray
for his success. He has came from the mounds of Moen- Jo-
Daro to the hills of our capital city to captivate art followers
with his paintings ".
Umrani paints in semi abstract form,
on miniature scale and he uses oil color ,oil pastel with
Knife in his paintings .Although he paints a variety of
subjects ,women are dominant in his paintings, because he
says " my source of inspiration was my mother's death,
so after the shock ,woman has occupied my canvas. he said
the artist reject slogans or political involvement in art
."when I asked a question about alienates he answered
that "An artist is not a strange person ,he never alienates
himself from society ,he gives so much importance to social
problems, social behavior , political injustice and the
real feelings of people by the stokes of his brush and the
voice of colors. He uses sharp bright, dark colors,
His artistic work is a window from which one can
see the glimpses of real Sindh.
