Elektra ELK 52 232, released 1980, recording dates not listed on sleeve.
Recorded on their European tour, this album features live versions of some familiar tunes from Splendid plus new material. The album features three different settings; solo piano, guitar duo, and the three as a trio. Joachim Kuhns 'O.D.' is a piano tour de force reminiscent of his playing on some of Jan Akkermans solo albums and particularly the Live-Kiel recording with Akkerman.
Of the duo pieces, 'My Serenade' is Djangos wonderful ballad given a slightly bluesy treatment in parts which works quite well. 'Gemstone File' is an uptempo modal tune similar to 'No More Booze' from Splendid, whilst 'That's Rock n'Roll' is just that.
The trio pieces are very good, particularly the pounding chords of 'Deus Xango' which works superbly well in the live format. 'Santa Cruz' is an attractive Joachim Kuhn composition with the almost obligatory Blues to round off an excellent album. This is worth finding if you can. I wrote to producer Siegfried Loch some years back asking why it was never released on CD - at the time neither had Twin House or Splendid. Well Twin House as we all know eventually came out with a few tracks from Splendid tacked on to it, but this Live offering has never re-appeared. Come on M. Loch!
