This is an amazing CD for two reasons; the first it shows Jan playing some exceptional acoustic guitar pieces, and secondly it is only available via the Internet showing the way that musicians like Jan can reach a wide audience in the future without a large record label and big budget marketing.
The gig was recorded in front of 100 people at the ancient Priory building in Birkenhead (near Liverpool) in England as part of the EuroWirral guitar festival. Jan actually plays some amazing pieces of music, which he magically weaved together from some of his most famous works, and at 70 minutes this represents great value. In fact the track list misses many pieces including part of a track called 'Maximum' recorded by Focus on the 'Con Proby' album.
Credit must go to Akkernet man Dave Randall for putting this together. It is professionally packaged with pictures and liner notes from both Jan and Dave and features an interactive CD section, which can be viewed through a web browser, and features album lists, biography and other interesting items.
This is a collector's album and well worth getting. The supply is limited so contact Dave Randall at [email protected] to get your copy. I was at the original gig and cannot recommend this highly enough. It beats all the other 'unplugged' albums which I have ever heard.
