John Patricius, a man of enormous wealth , living in Italy,who had no issues for
many years , decidided to spend his furtune on some meritorious cause.He and his
wife prayed to the blessed virgin mary to enlighten them as to how they should
proceed to spend their money
One night the blessed virgin appeared in a dream and requested John Patricius to
construct a church in her name . Jhohn took this message to then Pope Liberius and
to his surprise he was told that the pope too had a similar dream !
In response to the mother's request the pope along with John and others went
to examine the location for the church as indicated by the Mother in the ESKILIN
Mountain range There they were all astonished to see the location of the proposed
church site demarcated by a heavy layer of snow at a time when there was no snow
fall !
A church was built at the exact spot (352 - 366 A.D) and the mother was named
"MOTHER OF SNOW"giving credence to the church site.
This church , known in Italy as the church of St . Mary major , is considered a
miraculous shrine. here, the clothes worn by infant jesus, the manger in which he
was laid at birth and other this church is also considered the biggest dedicated
to the blessed virgin MARY.

History of the Church in Perambalur
Even though the perambalur parish was established in 1944, the church dates back
nearly 100 years.From then this church has been called "CHURCH OF THE MOTHER OF
SNOWS".
An uncle of maria suosai, a resident of perambalur, who was a sailor, arranged with his employers
to give his job to maria suosai, his nephew, on his retirement, in gratitude for the acquisition
of the job, Maria suosai brought a statue of the blessed virgin MARY. At that
time perambalur belonged to palayam parish.Due to the efforts of the parish priest,a small building was constructed in perambalur and this statue was enshrined
there from then on the feast of ther mother of snows has been celebrated. and the mother's fame sparead far and wide.
Once the justice party wo the elections,defeating the congress, mainly due to the suport of the christian community. Peeved by this defeat the opposition went to court alleging that the land claimed to be the property of the church was in fact government land as there was no documentary proof to support the claim of the church to ownership, the christian community was in a dilemma.by the grace of the mother,however, a stone inscription surfaced detailing the date of transfer and the fact that this land was gifted to the church by Santhapillai, Rayapillai and the members of the parish. when this was revealed to court, the case was dismissed in favour of the church. To this day this stone inscription can be seen on the wall of the church.
As the old church was inadequate to accomodate the large gathering that thronged, foundation for the present church was laid on the 27th november 1961 and construction was compeleted on 21st april 1965. The new church was consecrated by the bishop of kumbakonam, the RT. REV.D.Paul arulsamy D.D., and dedeicated.
To the lady of snows, from then the church witnessed a huge rise in the influx of devotees.
Having watched the phenominac growth of the chruch, the bishop, during the 150th jubilee year (25th march 1983 - 22nd april 1984) annointed the chruch to elevate the potency to a level that ensured redemption and succour to those devotees who visited this shrine.Those who pary here with complete faith in the lord and in the interceding power of the mother, receive all what they ask for. Lord jesus, through his mother bestows great boons and ensures both physical and mental welbeingwe invite you to come to this holy shrine and experience the soul warming benediction from our lord through the lady of snows.
MOTHER IS THE WINDOW.
