I have several favourite movies and since I can never choose just one, I've decided to list them all
by category.
Comedy
The Mask
Out of all of Jim Carrey movies I think this is his best comedy because it isn't all just physical comedy.
For those of you who haven't seen this movie, it is about a man named Stanley Ipkiss (Jim Carrey) who finds
a mask which gives him supernatural powers. This movie also stars Cameron Diaz (it was her first major
movie).
Disney
Mulan
One of the reasons I love Mulan is that it encourages young girls to go against the flow and not only
to be themselves, even if it means being different.
This story is about a girl name Mulan Fah who runs away from home because she wishes to save her father's
life by joining the army. Not the most historically accurate movie of the Huns attacking China,
but portrays the reality of discrimination against women quite well.
Lilo and Stitch
I love this movie because it is just so darn cute. For Elvis fans it is a must see (I bought the sound
track as well and there is alot of Elvis Presley). A wonderful film for all ages, it helps children
realize that a family is not necessarily the traditional nuclear family. This movie is about a little
girl who is being taken care of her older sister. In order to help her feel not as alone, Nani (Mia Carriere)
buys Lilo a "dog", who is really a loveable alien. Traditional Disney happy ending.
Series
Black Adder (All Seasons)
Starring Rowan Atkinson (haters of Mr. Bean please watch. You will find his role in this series much
more entertaining). Black Adder is a person who we follow through several periods of time, going all
way back from Elizabethan times to WWII. Black, sarcastic and sadistic humor.
Musical
Chicago
It is always hard for me to choose my favorite musical just because I have seen so many of them live.
However, Chicago was the most recent one I saw (not to mention it won several Oscars). I currently own
the soundtrack and am loving it.
Classics
Harvey
A very old black and white film. It stars Jimmy Stewart as the loveable Elwood P. Dowd. His sister
Rita trys to have him committed because she is trying to get her daughter Myrtle May started in society,
which can't happen while her uncle Mr. Dowd is around. As a result humorous chaos ensues. One of my
all time favs.
Action
Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Last Ark
One of my favorite all time Harrison Ford movies. It takes place just prior to WWII and he has to fight
Nazis in order to gain control of the prized Ark of the Covenant. Part of a trilogy.
Sci-Fi
Star Wars (IV-VI)
It is hard to pick my favorite Star Wars. I like the Ewoks the best so I guess
the third movie of the original series is my favorite. The new series are just eye candy, the only
really good part in the new movie was the scene with Yoda fighting.
Fantasy
Harry Potter (Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets)
No explanation needed. Good movies. Eagerly anticipating the third.
I take it we'll be dressing up and attending the premiere again girls?
Lord of the Rings
Who can pick between the first and second movie? I loved the long epic battle scene in the second movie
especially that part where Legalos slides down the stairs on the shield.
