Prayer is not a scary or hard thing to do. It is basically talking to God. There are many, many different techniques that have been used over the past 2000 years, but as you pray you will be guided by the Holy Spirit in how to more effectivly pray.
When we pray we are seeking God's face. We are kneeling before His throne awaiting His orders. We come with requests, and we come ready to receive instruction.
God is waiting for you. Go to Him now. If you have never prayed before you can start by introducing yourself and telling him about your life. He already knows all you are going to say, but it will help break the ice. Tell Him what you are ashamed of. Ask his forgiveness. His son was killed on a cross so that we are able to ask for this forgiveness. Ask for Him to enter your life. Give yourself to Him and His teachings.
Begin to read the Bible. Start in the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John). These will tell you about Jesus Christ's life and how his sacrifice makes it possible to have a relationship with God.
