Mosca Colorado           In the heart of the San Luis Valley
Welcome to the official web page of Mosca, Colorado, a small town with a big heart in the San Luis Valley of southern Colorado!

Mosca (Mahs-kah) was named for nearby Mosca Pass in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.  The pass was originally named Mosco Pass for Luis de Moscoso de Alvarado, an early explorer that succeeded DeAnza.  One of the first towns in the area with a post office was Mosco. The Alvarado Campground is north of Mosca Pass on the eastern side of the range.
In the heart of this high-elevation valley, Mosca is between the rugged San Juan Mountains and Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Farming and ranching are primary activities in the area, but Mosca and vicinity is also home to artists, musicians, writers, and a variety of business owners.
