a navy sky at nine AM

A navy sky at nine A.M,
Classroom lights are on.
It’s good to be indoors when
Outside, rain spits from the gutter-
Splashing off the grass like cow piss.

High-heels clacking,
Echoing through the corridor
Grow louder.
Click Clack, Click Clack, Click Clack
Hearts pound
Thud ump, Thud ump, Thud ump.
A dreadful fear silences the children.
