She Lies
by Ciara Burke

Eventually one day you'll tell me
why you cried, and I can lie to you
and tell you it never mattered in the
first place.We've done it before
and we will do it again. That's
a lot of work, she told me one
time, and we laughed at how profound
we were, and how we always wore each others slippers. There is a
moment in your life, when your shoes
don't fit and your gloves are too large;
It's the moment she tells you that
she doesn't remember your middle name.
