Wounded Heart
by Edmund Buckley

As dusk begins to draw shadows,
dark alleyways spark with flinted light
concealing treacherous thieves and vagabond beds
peering through beady eyes;
in Deaths careless night
as the star speckled skies are
modestly repelled by a city of orange light
a luminous lamp, tall and bright
is put on show.

A giant iron needle in a haystack of strung out junkies
and unwitting immigrant purses
the inevitable decay of a nations
destined to be devoured,
by head turning ignorant capitalist greed.

Across the stars of time in space
an irreversible journey of consumption,
intent of ignoring the crucified peasants
it trembles under the heavens,
this urban flower of cable and bolt.
