C7A1 5.56mm Assault Rifle
Note this is a pic of a M16A1, very similar to the C7A1
The C7A1 is the principal weapon of the Canadian Forces.
In 1984 the CF adopted a new generation of 5.56mm NATO calibre weapons for all services. The chosen weapons, designated C7, were based upon a M16A2 model license produced by Diemarco; the Colt number is 715.
The 5.56mm C7 fired in the fully automaic firing mode and a single shot mode, there is no three-round burst mode, unlike the US option. It uses a 3.5x magnification scope with the standard post optical sight. Two position aperature sigth C7 are still in use but the CF have been slowly moving towrds the better scoped weapon. The rifle has a cartridge case deflector to permit left handed firing and the barrel is cold forged chrome-lined design rifled to accept both SS109 and M193 type ammunition.
A full range of accesories for the C7 have been develpped, including bayonet, adjustable length stock, cleaning kits, blank firing attachments and a sling.
