The house measures in total about 140 square metres (1400 square feet) of inside living space. In addition there is the veranda and terrace, a large wine cellar, a wood shed, the attic, and lots of workshop/garage/storage space, some of which could be converted.
As well as an open fire with insert, and a large wood-burning stove, there is gas central heating. Hot water is also from the gas boiler.
Local taxes are low in comparison to UK.
Water is from a spring, brought to a storage tank and thence to the house, by an automatic electric pump. There is plenty of water, and it is free!
Drainage is to a septic tank. This works, but is not up to modern standards and will need replacing at some point although there is no compulsion to do so. Grants should be available for this work.
The village 5 km away has 250 inhabitants. It has a mairie, a church, a primary school (and school busses to take older children to the secondary school), terrain de boules, bakers, general/grocers shop, climbing shop, newsagent, petrol station, bars, restaurants, and pizza van in summer, as well as a weekly market with local (organic) produce.
