Chapter History

Senior Board Chapter: Founded in 1977

Awards:
Silver Torch Award in 2004-2005
Silver Torch Award in 2007-2008
Best Advisor Award in 2007-2008

Grants: Reading is Leading Grant in 2007

*Activities in 2007-2008:

1. Scholarship: Recognized outstanding active members at the begining of each meeting. Outstanding members were also awarded medallions at the initiation ceremony of the 2008-2009 members.

2. Leadership: Recognized outstanding professors at the homecoming football game (October 20, 2007). Two professors from each college were recognized:

a. College of Arts and Sciences:
Dr. Boniface James Mills and Dr. Christopher Ruar Gissendanner

b. College of Buisness and Administration:
Dr Bruce C. Walker and Dr. Kenneth E. Clow

c. College of Education:
Dr. Thillainataraja Sivakumaran and Dr. Tommy Church

d. College of Health Sciences:
Dr. Johanna Rose Weddle Boult and Dr. Brett Bennett

e. College of Pharmacy:
Dr. Paul W. Sylvester and Dr. Alamdar Hussain

3. Service: We organized 2 teams to participate in the Up Til Dawn fundraising campaign for St Jude Children's Research Hospital. We also recieved a grant to buy books to read to pediatric patients at St Frances North Hospital, Monroe LA.

4. Membership recriutment: Established the Senior Board chapter website. Organized a Mortar Board Mixer on ULM campus to recruit new members during Mortar Board Week.

5. Fundraising: Sold flowers at graduation commencement in the fall and spring semesters. We also presented our projects to the Campus Activity Board, which has greatly supported our chapter throughout the year.

6. Alumni outreach: The ULM Alumni Center sponsored a letter writing campaign to invite local Mortar Board members to the ice cream social on March 18, 2008. The ice cream social was organized to unite current members, new members, alumni members, and advisors.
