STORY
ABOUT SHAO KAHN
|
A civilized
realm known as Edenia was once a living planet similar to
the earth. A peaceful, quiet planet it was ruled by King
Jerrod and Queen Sindel. Edenia used a fighting tournament
to defend itself against invaders just like the earth does
now. But the dark emperor known as Shao Kahn managed to
successfully invade Edenia and take the life of Jerrod,
just shortly after the birth of Princess Kitana. Kahn then
sapped the realm's energies, causing Edenia to become a
large wasteland known as The Outworld. Shao Khan took Sindel
as his queen and Kitana as his step-daughter, the realm
would remain in this condition until Kahn's reign over it
would end. The thought of serving Shao Kahn eventually drove
Queen Sindel to madness, thus committed suicide at a young
age. Kahn was enraged by this. He withheld her soul from
moving on to a higher existence and used it as a token for
his victory over Jerrod, as well as a constant reminder
of his power to Princess Kitana. Over the years, Princess
Kitana was trained as a personal assassin for Shao Kahn,
working alongside her friend, Jade. Another of the many
assassins trained to serve Shao Kahn was Rain, the son of
a general in Edenia's army who was killed by Kahn during
his invasion. Shao Kahn's next target was the realm of earth...
Soon after Shao Kahn's takeover of the Outworld, an order
of the wisest men in the far east received visions of the
dark emperor. In order to prevent such an invasion on the
earth, they created their own tournament. The tournament
was known as Mortal Kombat, hosted by the Shaolin temples
-- warriors from around the world are invited to compete
in it, once every generation. But if Outworld warriors win
10 tournaments in a row, Shao Kahn would be allowed to enter
the earth and do with it as he pleases.
Shang Tsung's scheme in the first (new) tournament came
to a violent end at the hands of Liu Kang, one of the seven
chosen warriors who survived. Facing his execution for his
failure and the apparent death of Goro, Tsung convinces
Shao Kahn to grand him a second chance. Shang Tsung's new
plan is to lure his enemies to compete in the outworld where
they will meet certain death by Shao Kahn himself. But this
time, in the second (new) Mortal Kombat tournament, Kahn
himself appears to be too weak to stand up against the earth
warrior Liu Kang. Once again the emperor finds himself defeated,
and the world became safe again.
For centuries earth has used Mortal Kombat to defend itself
against the outworld's emperor Shao Kahn. But Kahn becomes
frustrated by the failed attempts at taking earth through
tournament battle. He enacts a plan, which began 10.000
years ago. During this time Kahn had a queen. Her name was
Sindel and her young death was unexpected. Kahn's shadow
priests, lead by Shang Tsung make it so Sindel's spirit
would some day be reborn, not on the outworld but on the
earth realm itself. This unholy act enables Shao Kahn to
step through dimensional gates and reclaim his queen. Thus
enabling him to finally seize the earth realm. Upon breaching
the portal into earth, Shao Kahn slowly transforms the planet
into a part of outworld itself. Kahn strips the earth of
all human life, claiming every soul as his own. But there
are souls, which Kahn cannot take. These souls belong to
the warriors chosen to represent earth in a new Mortal Kombat.
The remaining humans are scattered throughout the planet.
Kahn sends an army of fierce outworld warriors to find and
eliminate them. But even with the tremendous power of these
warriors, Kahn wasn't able to stop them from reaching Sindel
and face Kahn himself. Once again Kahn in defeated by the
hands of the Mortal Kombat champion, Liu Kang, in the third
(new) Mortal Kombat tournament. And this time Kang puts
an end to Kahn's rule permanently |
