Bonfire Night
Faces glow in the heat
of the magnificent fire
Young and old alike bask in its warmth
As the flames lick high into the night sky
The billowing smoke is masked by the darkness
The kindling wood of this inferno crackles
As a cool autumn breeze
Fans the flames to more ferocity

I stare deep onto the heart
Of the flickering mound
Mesmerised by the changing colours
Orange to Red to White and back again
The haze stings my eyes as I try to concentrate
A smell of burning sausages and onions
Wafts gently across from a small area
Surrounded with hungry bodies
When suddenly, BANG!

Everyones attention is diverted
To the brightly coloured sky
WHOOSH! as another rocket peirces the air
And explodes into a thousand tiny lights
Excited chatter from the crowd below
Is perforated by the occasional ooh and ahh
As more fireworks are sent screaming
to their fiery demise

But all too soon, the sky falls silent
And the only sounds that are heard
Are those of the car doors slamming
And engines purring into life
Much like the great fire itself
Another bonfire night is extinguished
Into the annals of history...
