In April 2006 we went to Val Sesia in the Northern Italian Alps.

An area typified by Snow capped mountains and steep rivers.

Paddling with us were:
Dom

Sparky Mark (Used to work at Performance Kayaks and is a South Avon CC paddler)

Ewart (Works at AS Watersports in Exeter)

Roger (Works at AS Watersports in Exeter)

Mike (Works at White Water The Canoe Centre Shop in Shepperton)

We were also joined for a couple of days by James & Ben (Ex-Bistol Uni) and Gav
(Lives and teaches in Switzerland).
Val Sesia is regarded as a World Class Steep Creeking venue with large Granite
boulder runs

and steep bed rock slides.

The Rivers we paddled in the Val Sesia area included the Semenza

The Sorba

The Gronda

The Egua

And the Semenzina

The Semenzina was my favourite despite getting a beating (A true pub story!).
We travelled out of the Val Sesia region heading to Switzerland we paddled the
Cannebio involving four and a half hours of scouting, running and portaging in a
four hundred feet deep canyon.
Next day we entered Switzerland and found the real Gem of the Ribo. Again four
hours plus scouting and running virtually everything. The Ribo carries a hidden
surprise under a bridge (proper park and huck special!).

Whilst in Switzerland we also paddled the Versaca which is a classic river with
some amazing bed rock chutes and slides.
On the way home we checked out some tributaries of the Dora Baltea the Soana and
Chiusella were running a little low but are class rivers. Our last stop was the
Ayasse which is a full on non stop drop fest with a chunky fall in the middle.

We had an awesome trip and Val Sesia rocks
