PROGRESS! See photos below. Morrisonville Depot, Morrisonville, Wisconsin November 2002-December 2003
Things are happening at the depot! MDPSI now owns the depot building. The moving company arrived the week of November 10, 2002. The Harris Company has done extensive work in historic restoration. Gary Harris and his crew began the task of stabilizing and leveling the building. As you can see in the photos the floor was removed and support cables and bracing were installed. Trenches were dug for the installation of the steel I-beams that run under the building. The depot was then jacked up to a level position. Gary mentioned that the walls are very solid and in excellent restorable condition.
We are now ready to start work on a new roof. Drawings of the new trusses and a materials list was submitted to various suppliers. Bids have come back and we will be working with Stock Lumber Co. of Windsor, WI. Work on the roof may wait until spring due to the cold weather. When funding becomes available and land is purchased the depot will be moved onto a concrete slab. Eventually a replica of the wood floor will be installed over the concrete.
Other developments: Mark Quam and other members and friends have done extensive work scraping paint, painting the metal window covers, installing an access door and hauling away debris. The depot agents desk has been removed and is being refurbished by Society member Bob Newbegin. The Home Feed Co. is now history. The remaining silos will soon be demolished too.
It's been very exciting to see some actual progress being made. But we obviously have a long way to go. Our main need now is funding. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated. They can dropped off at the Morrisonville Post Office or mailed to the Morrisonville Depot Preservation Society, Inc. P.O. Box 158, Morrisonville, WI 53571. THANK YOU!
